The SustainAsia Week 2024 Awards are an annual recognition event that celebrates and honors exceptional achievements in the field of energy. The awards highlight groundbreaking contributions and advancements made by individuals, companies, and organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to driving positive change in the energy sector. These achievements include renewable energy generation, energy efficiency, energy storage, clean transportation, Net Zero with climate technology and sustainable infrastructure.
The SustainAsia Week 2024 Awards winners are selected through a rigorous evaluation process that assesses their impact, innovation, scalability, and sustainability. The awards ceremony acknowledges outstanding accomplishments and encourages collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and inspiration among participants to drive further progress in the energy sector.
The Awards will be presented as part of the SustainAsia Week 2024 Awards Night held on the opening night of the remarkable coalescence of SETA 2024, Solar+Storage Asia 2024, and Sustainable Mobility Asia 2024 on 15th. August 2024. The awards will present an excellent opportunity to network and celebrate our wonderful industry with the Director General of the Department of Energy Business, Ministry of Energy Thailand!
Award Categories and Criteria
Energy Leadership Executive of the Year
open to nominations of individuals who have made substantial contributions to the region's energy sector in 2022-2023. This award reflects the industry's commitment to diversity and inclusivity and acknowledges the contributions of all individuals.
NetZero Mobility
category honors innovative solutions and technologies that promote sustainable transportation with zero greenhouse gas emissions. This category celebrates advancements in electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell technology, renewable energy charging infrastructure, and other initiatives contributing to a cleaner and greener future of mobility.
Asia Best CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage)
award recognizes outstanding projects or initiatives in carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies across Asia. Criteria includes effectiveness in capturing CO2 emissions from industrial processes, demonstrated utilization of captured CO2, safely and securely storing captured CO2 to prevent its release into the atmosphere, economic viability, and environmental and social co-benefits, such as air quality improvements, job creation, or community engagement.
Green Infrastructure
award acknowledges projects and initiatives that focus on developing sustainable infrastructure that support a low-carbon economy and enhance environmental sustainability. Winners demonstrate commitment to incorporating green design principles into infrastructure projects, promote biodiversity and ecosystem services through infrastructure development, use renewable materials and sustainable construction practices, and implement integration of nature-based solutions to enhance resilience to climate change and mitigate environmental impacts. - category acknowledges exceptional achievements in sustainable building design and environmentally conscious architecture. This category recognizes projects that prioritize energy efficiency, resource conservation, and the use of eco-friendly materials.
Climate Technology for Net-Zero CO2
category recognizes technological innovations and solutions that contribute to achieving net-zero carbon dioxide emissions. This award reflects the winners’ effectiveness in reducing or capturing CO2 emissions from various sources such as energy generation, industrial processes or transportation, compatibility with existing infrastructure and regulatory frameworks, and positive environmental and social co-benefits beyond CO2 reduction.
Net-Zero CO2 Platform
category honors platforms or initiatives that facilitate collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and action toward achieving net-zero CO2 emissions. This acknowledges each winning organization’s accessibility and inclusivity of the platform, enabling participation from diverse stakeholders including governments, businesses, academia, and civil society. It is to recognize their provision of resources, tools, and guidance to support organizations and individuals in setting and achieving net-zero CO2 targets, track record of fostering partnerships and collective action to accelerate progress toward carbon neutrality. As well as to admire transparency and accountability in emission reduction efforts.
Energy Revolution
category honors any renewable energy project that has reached a significant milestone, utilized RECs to drive adoption in the region, or successfully implemented reliable and sustainable power solutions using distributed energy technology and/or energy storage.
Circular Economy and Resource Management
category honors initiatives promoting a sustainable and circular economy. It celebrates innovative practices, technologies, and strategies that minimize waste, optimize resource utilization, and foster responsible resource management. Winners showcase achievements in creating a regenerative and resource-efficient economy for long-term sustainability.
Carbon Reduction
category recognizes exceptional efforts in reducing carbon emissions and mitigating climate change. This category honors initiatives, projects, and technologies that demonstrate significant progress in decarbonizing industries, promoting sustainable practices, and achieving measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Winners in this category contribute to a low-carbon future and inspire others to take effective action against climate change.
SMR of the Year
award recognizes any SMR plant that has set itself apart through successful project completion, engineering upgrades, new or innovative clean technology implementation, or the application of environmental control technologies.
Transmission & Distribution Networks
category acknowledges projects and technology developments that are advancing ASEAN's network infrastructure, including power trading agreements and progress toward the APG dream.
Smart Grid & Energy Storage
category honors projects and technologies showcasing new data solutions for utilities and customers, alongside advancements in energy storage. Winners optimize grid operations, improve energy efficiency, and enhance reliability with smart grid technologies. Innovations in energy storage promote renewable energy integration and grid stability, driving a resilient and sustainable energy future.
Apart from boasting rights, award winners will have the privilege of stepping onto the stage during the award night, in the presence of a packed room comprising industry leaders from the entire region. The winners will gain significant exposure for their businesses both leading up to (as nominees) and during SustainAsia Week 2024.
Nominations are open to the public, and we strongly encourage vendors, utilities, IPPs, C&I customers, and individuals who have developed successful technological and business innovations to submit multiple nominations across various categories. There are no restrictions on nominating your own company, project, or executive, and a project can be nominated across multiple categories.
Eligibility
Any initiative, project or plant that: Has been completed, achieved a significant milestone or undergone overhaul or upgrade in 2023-2024 o is based in the ASEAN region (we make an exception for start-ups, so long as their product can be shown to applicable to the regional market, ideally with an in-region case study)
For the Energy Leadership Executive of the Year, these people must run a business whose primary focus is within ASEAN, though they do not have to sit in the region themselves
Winners must have a senior executive available to attend the SustainAsia Week 2024 Awards Night on 15 August 2024 in Bangkok

How to Nominate?
Please complete 1 nomination application for each category you are entering. If you wish to nominate for multiple categories, you must send in separate nominations for each. Email it with the subject line AWARD NOMINATION to nop@gat.co.th.
The Award criteria are deliberately broad to capture a wide variety of projects. Interpret them as you see fit with the focus on projects that are best of breed by virtue of their value to stakeholders and industry. There are normally many partners involved in energy projects so list those who are relevant to your selected project.
For each nomination, please include:
- Company name
- Contact details of main point of contact
- The category for which you are submitting the nomination (one only)
- Business/Plant/Project/Executive name
- 500 word write-up to include for example:
- What was the purpose of the project? o What was achieved? o How does this set it apart from its competitors? o Who is the utility, IPP or the customer?
- You are welcome to include pictures or URL links for more details
Submissions must be received by July 25th, 2024.
Judging Process
The process is 100% independent, impartial and conducted with total transparency. The decisions made by our judging panel are final. The judges can withhold awards in categories where a lack of activity as meant there were no eligible nominations. The judges will consider each nomination on its own merit and form the longlist of publically nominated entries finalize a shortlist of 3-4 per category. This shortlist will be voted on to determine the winners and runners-up.
The judges will consider factors such as (but not limited to):
- What milestones have been achieved?
- What challenges were overcome?
- What solutions were implemented and how have these contributed to the company’s business?
- How have new technologies adopted improved financial performance and provided significant ROI?
- What new or cutting-edge technology has been used, or how has existing technology been implemented in a novel way?
- What are the criteria for project success, did the project/product/service meet its objectives and targets?
- What is the longevity of the project, is it future-proof and in line with the boarder ASEAN energy strategy?
For Energy Leadership Executive of the Year Awards
- The company performance vs contemporaries
- Ensuring growth and shareholder ROI
- Overseeing change management, and/or, turnaround success
- Cementing their market reputation as a company leader and as a thought leader
- Embracing innovation
