With a revolution in the further advancement, storage helps solar contribute to the electricity supply even when the sun isn’t shining. It can also help smooth out variations in how solar energy flows on the grid. As the grid diversifies and electricity demand increases, energy storage plays an important role and is ramping up dramatically to achieve the economic and climate goals. The government, federal agency and the energy policy actions are needed to unleash the potential of solar and energy storage worldwide. Solar and Energy storage is the answer to the current issues faced in using renewable energy for power generation. It can be used in many applications; providing the power during night-time, smoothing the electricity prices through arbitrage, manage the energy ramps, mitigate the risk of curtailment, provide backup power in blackouts, etc. Moreover, when the demands increase, the reductions of costs in PV cells, lithium-ion batteries, and manufacturing as scaled up to support electric grids, applications and electrical vehicles, and others. Assumingly, Solar and Energy storage can create numerous business opportunity for each other’s long-term success and its ability to scale beyond over 20% of total electric generation goal. Ultimately, the wide-scale adoption of solar will lead to the wide-scale adoption of storage, which will in turn lead to more opportunities to deploy solar. And so, Solar + storage has, and will continue to have, a symbiotic relationship.

The Sun Has Arisen

Thailand has continuous governmental support, incentives and promotion especially for Solar Energy for the longest period within the region.
  • The predicted rate of the increase in growth of Solar Energy market will jump to over 50% within the year 2024
  • Thailand’s power development plan (PDP) is to achieve the electricity power generation from Solar Energy to be increased by 5 times within the year 2037. Also, in the 20-year plan, the Thai government plans to achieve electricity power generation to 20 GW which 45% of it is solely from Solar Energy.
  • Now Thailand has achieved the electricity power generation from Solar Energy of 345 MW, calculated as 43% of the power generation from Renewable Energy in total.
  • The Ministry of Energy of Thailand has been promoting to expand the incentive program to extend the time for the FIT(Feed-In Tariffs) from 10 years to 25 years.
  • The Ministry of Energy has also established the Alternative Energy Development Plan (AEDP) to show strong governmental support in relation to reducing costs of solar PV systems – resulting in an increase in demand in Thailand solar market.
  • The Ministry of Energy is also currently promoting and expanding the investment project for solar roof top and floating solar project in Thailand, and is moving ahead to promote and launch the tax and non-tax incentive program for investor in the solar industry.

Mega Trend

Solar photovoltaic power will be at the forefront of Thailand’s renewable energy power generation and is expected to account for 90% of this capacity expansion. The projected US$6 trillion worth of investment from now and 2025, higher than the expected investment in oil and gas.

Promising Destination

Thailand is the world’s 51st largest country by area, 20th largest country by population and the 32nd largest country in the world by economic size. Post-Covid-19, Thailand will still be a great hotspot for global investment.

Open Market Economy

Thailand boasts of a strong open market economy and has emerged as one of the fastest growing countries in ASEAN region.

Hub of ASEAN

Thailand has the potential to be the regional logistic hub due to its strategic location in ASEAN region and easy access to the Greater Mekong sub region (GMS).
